Create reels to showcase your products or passions.

Reels are a powerful way to raise brand awareness and attract new customers or followers. They’re also excellent for re-engaging people who have already shown interest in your brand.

Creating a reel is simple. Start by opening Reels and recording a short vertical video or uploading photos and videos from your camera roll. Make sure to hook your audience in the first three seconds by adding music or effects. Write an engaging caption, and just like that, you’ve created your first reel.

Find inspiration.

When you’re just getting started, you’ll likely hear the term “brand awareness.” Simply put, brand awareness is about how well people recognize you or your product. Reels are a powerful tool for building brand awareness because even if someone doesn’t follow you, they can still discover your content through their feed, the Explore tab, or the Reels tab. The more reels you create, the more opportunities you have for new people to find you and connect with your brand.

The key is to create content that resonates with your audience while showing off your brand’s personality. Take a simple idea and enhance it with Reels tools—like trending audio or effects—to grab attention. For inspiration, browse the Reels Explore tab to see what others in your niche are doing. Staying on top of trends can help you participate in current conversations and engage with the community.

Record or import.

You can create reels in two main ways: by recording directly within the app or by importing videos from your camera roll. Here’s how to get started:

To record a clip in the app, first decide how long you want your reel to be. Tap the button to choose your desired length. Once selected, you can start recording by tapping and holding the button. When you’re ready to stop, simply release it. You’ll see a color bar moving around the circle, indicating how much time you have left for your reel.

To record additional clips, just tap and hold the button again and release when you’re done. This allows you to create multi-clip videos. You can keep recording until you reach your chosen time limit.

You can also import content from your camera roll by tapping here and selecting the images or videos you want to include in your reel. If you have multiple images, you can turn them into a slideshow. Add music and stickers, and you’ve got yourself a creative reel.

Try experimenting with both recording in-app and importing content to see what works best for your style.

Add audio.

Adding audio to your reels is a great way to capture attention and boost visibility. To add music, go to the Reels recording screen and tap the audio icon. You’ll find a variety of songs categorized for easy browsing. Once you’ve picked a song, you can choose which part of the track you want to use. The app may suggest specific segments, or you can manually adjust the slider to select your preferred part of the song.

Using trending audio can also help increase your reel’s reach. To discover trending audio, swipe through the Explore page and check out the most frequently played tracks. If you find audio you like on another reel, you can save it for your own use. Simply tap the name of the audio to use it now or save it for later. Your saved audio will appear in the audio tool when you return to create your next reel.

You can also search hashtags to see what audio is being used by others. For example, if you search #art and tap on the Reels tab, you’ll see reels that use that hashtag and can check out the audio they’re using. You can even follow hashtags to see related posts in your feed.

For even more insights, Instagram releases a monthly trend report at creators.instagram.com/blog, which highlights new and trending audio and offers pro tips for editing.

Save and share.

Ready to share your reel? If you’re not quite there yet, don’t worry! You can always save your reel as a draft and come back to it later. After recording, simply tap through to the preview page and hit the “Save as Draft” button.

To edit a draft, go to your Instagram profile, tap the reel icon, then select “Drafts” to choose the reel you want to edit. Once you’re happy with your reel, it’s time to share it. Don’t forget to add a caption! A good caption should include a call to action (CTA) to encourage engagement. For example, I wrote, “New pieces in the shop – take a look at them” to encourage people to visit my shop. Your CTA can be anything from “comment below” to “follow me for more.” If you plan to run an ad, a strong CTA in the caption is key.

Key takeaways.

You can use Reels to help more people discover your professional or personal brand.

  • Record a new video in-app or import photos and videos from your camera roll.
  • Add trending songs to your reels to boost views.
  • Write a compelling call to action in the caption to drive engagement.
  • Share your reel on both Facebook and Instagram to maximize your reach.

These steps will help you create content that attracts more attention and expands your audience.

Show off your creative process or product with Reels.

Reels can help you inspire people and encourage them to engage with your brand. One way to do this is to make a how-to video about your product or a reel about your creative process.

Before you start recording, plan out what story you want to tell and what shots you plan to take. After you’ve recorded, you’ll want to trim your clips down to make sure that they fit together seamlessly, then get creative with Reels editing tools such as text and stickers. Finish off by adding a caption that works with your content, plus two or three hashtags to improve your reach.

1.Keep people engaged.

Keep both new and existing followers engaged by sharing content that tells a story. Show the process behind your brand, such as how you create your products or how to use them. This not only keeps your audience interested but also makes your brand more memorable and relatable. Sharing the “behind-the-scenes” can help deepen the connection with your audience.

2.Make a plan.

Before you start filming, try planning out your reel. Visualize the story you want to tell and how you want to present it. Planning ahead will make the process smoother. Think about how you’ll record the video, and consider the lighting to make sure your reel looks its best. Watch this video for more tips on how to prepare and create your perfect reel.

3.Edit your reel.

You can create an engaging reel by combining multiple clips and using the trimming tool for smooth transitions. Once you’re happy with the flow of your story, add your brand’s personality with text, stickers, or GIFs to make it even more captivating. Watch this video for creative tips on how to let your personality shine through and make your reel stand out.

4.Use hashtags.

Adding hashtags to your caption is a great way to increase the visibility of your reels and help people discover your content. Use specific hashtags related to your brand, niche, or topics that you think your target audience will be interested in. You can also search Instagram for trending hashtags and follow them for future inspiration. This helps you stay up-to-date with popular trends and increases your chances of reaching a broader audience.

Keep people engaged.

Posting content through Reels is a powerful way to boost brand discovery while keeping your audience engaged. The reel we just created is a great example of how you can guide your audience through a process—whether it’s showing how to use your product, sharing your creative process, or unboxing something. This kind of reel tells a story in an engaging way that keeps people interested. Remember, it’s important to keep your audience inspired with fresh, creative content so they’ll keep coming back for more.

Make a plan.

Getting everything prepared for your reel before you start filming will help things go smoothly. Begin by planning the shots you want to capture, considering the framing, props, and any details that need to be in each shot. Write it all down to keep everything organized. This is especially helpful for multi-clip reels.

Next, think about how you’ll shoot your content. Start simple by choosing between handheld or using a tripod. For handheld, you can either shoot selfie-style or use the back camera on your phone. If you prefer stability, consider getting a phone tripod or simply place your phone on a flat, sturdy surface like a desk, counter, or shelf.

Finally, let’s talk about lighting—it’s essential! Position yourself in front of a window or a strong light source that evenly bounces light around the room. Avoid shooting in too dark a space, as it can affect the clarity of your video.

For more tips,

Edit your reel.

When working with a multi-clip video, trimming your clips is essential. It allows you to keep only the footage you need, cut out the unnecessary parts, and create smooth transitions between clips. To trim, tap on the clip you want to edit, and it will expand into a wider frame. Then, drag the ends of the slider towards the center to adjust the clip’s length. The highlighted portion is what will be kept after trimming.

To enhance your reel, you can add text. While reviewing your clips, click the text button or tap anywhere on the screen where you want the text to appear. After typing, a slider will appear at the bottom of the screen. Drag the slider to choose exactly when and where the text should appear in your reel.

Use hashtags.

Adding hashtags to your reels captions can help increase your reach and find a more relevant audience. When you use the right hashtags on your Instagram Reels content, your post will be discoverable by people who have similar interests as you and who are more likely to be interested in buying your products and services. Add hashtags relevant to the videos so that others can discover your reel. Maybe #dancechallenge or #styleinspo, just something really relevant to the content that you’re creating. You can use the search function to look up words relevant to your brand or business. Click “Tags” and see which hashtags are trending. If you click on a trending hashtag, you can also choose to follow and see reels that use it for inspo. And now #gomakeareel!

Key takeaways:

Create an inspiring reel by showcasing a how-to process or story related to your brand. Before you start recording, take a moment to visualize your story and gather any materials you’ll need. Once you’re ready, start filming!

After recording, trim your clips to create smooth transitions and keep the flow of your reel engaging. Enhance your content further by adding text and stickers to give it personality and help communicate your message clearly.

Finally, don’t forget to add hashtags to your caption. This will help you reach new people and increase the visibility of your reel.
